What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy looks at the signs and symptoms of your current health and investigates the underlying cause of a condition as well as treating the symptoms.
Focusing on the patient’s overall health priority, and includes the development of a treatment plan that best suits the patient’s needs. The naturopathic underlying belief is that the body can heal itself providing it receives the right support.
Many areas are accessed to provide an overall (holistic) picture of each patients health needs.
- Current symptoms.
- Contributing factors like diet and lifestyle.
- Your family health history.
- Stress levels.
- Environmental factors.
- Functional pathology tests.
Functional pathology looks into the function or how the tissue or organs are operating. General pathology tests looks for disease makers. We use functional laboratory tests to measure and test along the way to keep us on track.
There is no point in just checking for a deficiency, the key is to why and how was the deficiency caused. Designing your treatment is a meticulous thought out process that covers as many factors as possible to facilitate change in the overall condition.
Our initial naturopathic consultation is where we meet you to find out:
- What your health goals are.
- Do a thoroughly investigated of your the overall health.
- Gather all the information from you.
- Case history report.
- A family history.
- We may need to order a functional pathology tests.
- In some cases, we may prescribe 1-2 supplements to ease discomfort.
Approximately a week after the initial consultation we see you too outline our findings and present your personalised treatment. This plan is set out in manageable chunks, so it is easy for you to do and that suits most peoples budgets.
I recommend my patients to look at health as a journey and not a quick fix option. A pill for an ill only teaches you how to take pills. Learning about health is understanding what you need to do now and in the future to facilitate and balance your state of health. That lesson will last a lifetime.
How Does Nutrition Benefit Health?
All cells in the body need nutrients to function. Not enough vitamin C and your gums may start bleeding, too much magnesium causes loss bowel motions. Nutritional science measures nutrients, their function and interaction on cells ability to felicitate health and disease. Its not just about intake of the food it is also about the breaking down and absorbing the nutrients from your diet. Factors that play a role in inhibiting your nutritional uptake:
- digestion.
- metabolism.
- environmental.
- psychological.
- cravings.
Other considerations like fats, protein and carbohydrates, water intake, environmental contaminants, pesticides, food additives and genetically modified foods all can be contributing to ill health.
The nutritional assessment focuses on the patient’s priorities and includes the development of a treatment plan that best suits the patient’s needs.
All naturopathic consultations include this nutritional assessment at Groves Naturopathics. Only naturopaths and nutritionists are qualified to give nutritional advice.
