Chia seeds are small seeds original from Central America and used by the Aztecs for centuries to help with digestion.
They are loaded with tons of nutritional benefits, including 631 mg of calcium per 100 grams, which is way more than the 110 mg of calcium in 100 grams of greek yogurt. They also contain other essential minerals such as iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, copper, and manganese. In addition, Chia seeds have one of the highest levels of fibre – which helps prevent constipation.
A Study showed that chia seeds consumed for 12 weeks reduce weight and waist circumference and may enhance the body’s lipid profile: the omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids and Alpha-Linolenic Acid content. Chia seeds have fewer carbohydrates than many grains and are an excellent complement to a healthy diet. Find them in supermarkets and health food stores.
